Simply Automated UPB Input/Output Module
Model UMI is a plug-in module designed to identify and transmit the status of low voltage inputs and contact closures, and to control the operation of low-power actuators based on digital commands received over the powerline. The module communicates using the highly reliable Universal Powerline Bus (UPB) technology. UPB devices such as Model UMI are easily integrated to provide a flexible, low-cost alternative to hardwired or RF home automation strategies.
Model UMI is useful for detecting events such as a ringing telephone or doorbell, or for monitoring alarm switches on doors and windows, or for sensing audio signals from a sound system. The outputs deliver on/off control for low-power electrical devices such as door strikes, drapery controls, central vacuum controls, electric fireplace actuators, garage door openers, sprinkler valves, etc. Installation is simple: the module is plugged into a standard 120VAC outlet and the devices to be monitored/controlled are wired into a terminal block on the bottom of the module. A non-controlled 120VAC outlet is also provided on the face of the module. Connected devices can be operated manually using a multi-button controller, or automatically via PC or home automation server.
